Ossian Vineyard
Segovia

Ossian is located in the heart of the Rueda DO, but the wines are classified as VT de Castilla y León.  This vineyard is one of the oldest in Europe; the Verdejo vines grow across 222 acres in the province of Segovia, 99 acres are ungrafted pre-Phylloxera bush vines between 100-200 years-old, while the other 123 acres are young, organic trellised vines.  From the start, Ossian stood out for its commitment to organic practices sticking to natural compost and plant extracts as its main growing tools.

Altitude 2,952 - 3,280 feet

The sandy soil in this area kept Phylloxera at bay in the late 19th century, while the slate, clay, and gravel blend allow for excellent drainage and provide the wines a unique structure and minerality.

Temperatures in the snowy winter can drop as low as 15° below, while the summers are dry with extreme heat. These severe conditions and dramatic contrasts contribute to the distinct, intense, balanced character of the wines.
